The Challenge

NYC 311 receives millions of service requests annually. Program managers need to quickly identify which Community Districts are experiencing elevated complaint volumes and what types of issues are driving that pressure.

Our Approach

Built a real-time choropleth dashboard that normalizes complaint counts by population, enabling fair comparisons across districts of different sizes. Added week-over-week trend indicators and drill-down capabilities.

The Output

Interactive map with 59 Community Districts, filterable by borough and complaint category. Click any district for detailed metrics including top complaint types, daily trends, and borough rankings.

Approach

Aggregate Checkbook NYC data by agency, vendor, and contract type. Calculate concentration metrics (HHI) and flag outliers.

Dashboard showing spend distribution, top vendors by agency, and year-over-year concentration trends.

Combine contract data with certified M/WBE registry. Map utilization rates against goals by borough and NAICS code.
